rlcs winter major recap : for dummies

this past weekend (4/10), the rlcs 2022-2023 winter major split took place in san diego.

its safe to assume that most rocket league fans were watching devoutly, BUT, people have lives, and its hard to catch every little detail!

i present to you a breakdown of all the major and exciting things that happened, so you dont feel like you missed a single moment!

this is obviously not going to be all encompassing, but i’m going to try to hit the major moments, with highlights and clips so you can go back and view them if you so please!

side note here as well, this isn’t going to be a super polished and high quality piece. i want to just provide a simple recap so you can relive all the action from this weekend!

starting off with a bit of a shock, after torment got dropped from version 1, he announced his retirement over the weekend. you can view his twitlonger here.

in another tearjerking announcement, four time rlcs champion turbopolsa has also announced his retirement. one of the true legends of rocket league, i think i speak for everyone when i say we will miss his presence, and his legacy will be long lived.

being honest with you i cried during this video.

NOW, ONTO THE GAMES!

G1 had an extremely strong game against FaZe, beating the team that ultimately got second place, BUT ended up last in their group. funny how that happens.

the group winners ended up being FaZe, Karmine Corp, Liquid, and Complexity.

we saw an extremely strong performance out of the Falcons, effectively establishing the need for more MENA spots. Falcolns took victories against both Vitality, and Dignitas, but ultimately fell to Gen. G in round 1 of the playoffs.

another surprise to many, Krü ended up finishing top 8, taking down G1, and Team Secret.

adding this here because i adore this display of passion. you can see how much they wanted this.

speaking on gen.g, they had a strong run until the fated FaZe matchup. unfortunately, they lost 4-2 to FaZe, knocking them out in the quarterfinal round.

and dont get me started on FaZe! THEY FINALLY BROKE THE 4TH PLACE CURSE! *more on that in a moment*

finishing up a quick quarter final recap, Complexity and Liquid both had fantastic top 4 runs, but got knocked out by FaZe and Karmine Corp, respectively.

in the end, it was FaZe and Karmine Corp. they had an INTENSE series (which, if you have to watch any series in its entirety from this weekend, i would suggest this one)

FaZe lost 2-4 to Karmine Corp, effectively grabbing second place, and establishing Karmine Corp as the 2022-2023 Winter Split CHAMPIONS!

the fated moment where the blue wall finally lifted the trophy

karmine corps had a perfect record, going 6-0 into their championship win.

the blue wall did NOT come to play, and it is obvious that KC retains a strong presence in RLCS. i cannot wait to watch them at worlds.

vatira becomes a 2-time major champion, and was awarded both overall mvp, and offensive mvp.

mist, from FaZe took the very deserved defensive mvp. (if you didn’t watch him, you missed out.)

itachi went from being disqualified back in season 3 (because he lived in morocco) to becoming a major champion. if that isn’t a fantastic story, i don’t know what is. absolute legend in my books.

if you missed this major in person, don’t stress! the locations for the spring split, as well as worlds were announced!

the spring split will be in boston from july 6-9

the world championship will be in düsseldorf, germany, with wildcard being august 4-6 (no live audience), and the main event being august 8-13.

i will personally be attending boston, and possibly düsseldorf, and hope to see each and everyone of you there!

if you got to the end of this, i’ll give you a quick spoiler on the next few posts.

upcoming interviews from gen. g noly, and optic retals! be sure to keep a lookout, they’re going to be good ones.

did i forget a major detail? have something else to say? drop me a comment!
